THE END OF THE SHOOTING IS OVER with 6mins to go

We have finished filming the movie so we need to sort out some of the music and sound effects also tweak a few bits where have a 70mins rough cut done by midnight and then where edit a 70 min version for screening on the 20th March in London NYC and LA we still need to ad credits and get contracts signed by all the main crew who made the movie before a distribution deal
wish we could of had more time i think we could of had a 90min feature but all the shooting is done so we can say whe shot the whole movie in 28 days , as it could be a selling point , could get to the ICA to collect films but the ICA logged all the films in before close , some of the films where under 70- mins which was fine as i said at least you got the movie finished , but the rule was 70 mins but the most important part of the whole challenge wasnt just about the 28 days it was about making a movie in one month , at least 10 teams dropped out 5 didnt even pay but just as well they all pulled out before the start , but even if we get only 5 or 6 featue films its still amazing
im more than happy for all the teams , shame i wasnt in comperition i would of loved to of entered maybe next time , we just did it for fun on a budget of less than £200 and a load of blagging and borrowing of peoples time and effort , we at least have something made in one month from the random theme title and story which we almost stuck to ? our movie is the office meets living in oblivion , a mocumentary on the making of a sci fi b movie blockbuster
it was fun making it and hell getting it together but its there its almost a movie !!
see you all soon for the screening everyone has been waiting for
WHEN LONDON SLEPT IT CAME ALIVE

last day of shooting OMG one day to go !!!

The following weeks have been unreal i was on a bus that crashed i use my friends office and
we have over 30 extras on set running though london screaming while being chased by a 3 ft robot ? also been working with an amazing group of people with no egos just the love to make movies , and the challenge has produced over 6 or 7 feature films in 28 days which is wild
we have loads of editing to complete tonight and tomo so poor gary is going to be up late
for the sake of everyones efforts , his an amzing guy who idd work with again if he ever needed me on one of his projects , we have pulled in so many fav's and begged borrowed and haft-inched
equipment cameras vehicles but without everyones help we wouldn't of got this far to many people to thank now ,but we have just one more day to go !!! and it will just be the start of promoting and uploading everyones feature films for the judges
excited just wanna see what the other teams have done , its not about if they made a great film
they made a feature film no more shorts ofter this for them
it just shows with teamwork anything is possible

UPDATE FROM OTHER TEAMS part 2

Hey Johnnie,

Thanks for the email.

We're buried in the post and racing toward the deadline at tremendous speed.

The film is looking amazing though...

It's a mad David Lynch, Kubrick, Von Trier inspired Horror Thriller with an Altman ensemble cast.

One of my co-producers has been talking the project up around town and we're starting to get some proper distribution interest already, which is really exciting considering we shot the film for next to nothing - literally hard drives, catering, parking fines and some props were the only expenses...

For a taster here's the opening title sequence where you can also see your name in dramatic flashing lights under the co-producer heading:

I had a couple of questions as we get ready to deliver on Sunday...

The first is simply that we're over-length by a couple of minutes (7 or so) and we've hacked out everything that could go to this point but to lose anything else would actually be detrimental to the film... I've called a crew meeting and shown them the film, everyone is in agreement that this is the best version so please, please, please can we submit it at our length? If not let me know and I can have a lay in on Sunday coz I'm shattered.

I also noticed one of your criteria for entry is non-copywritten music - I direct music videos most of the time and have had some tracks donated by bands that I work with regularly. I've got clearance paper-work sorted but again I just wanted to double-check eligibility with you.

Here's a couple of behind the scenes snaps...

Thanks again for the kick up the ass - I've been bitching and moaning about not being able to get funding for a feature for about 2 years and now I've shot one and it's a fucking amazing feeling, especially when it's come out this well...

Best,

Shane

Nearly there! Hopefully finish up on Saturday and then drop off the dvd. It's been a mad few weeks with over 27 actors, 12 locations and to give it that global feel we've set scenes in Beijing and USA, the China scenes being shot in Mandarin Chinese...

So, back to the edit and on with the special fx, grade and sound mix. That's about it...

Hi Johnnie

With regards to Dripping With Sweat team, we have sweated quite a bit this month! but sadly we will not be able to submit a feature film before the deadline.

We are still carrying on with filming our story, and hope to submit a decent 3min trailer for the ICA show, if this is still cool. The upshot is that we aim to carry on with the project independently of the challenge and hope to eventually cut together a "long short"

The reasons we could not finish are:

- Took too long to write the story
- Took too long to cast
- Sporadic availability of cast and locations
- Over ambitious / wordy script led to 6 hour shoots resulting in 6 minutes of usable editied footage
- Lack of directorial experience with camera setups led to 6 hour shoots resulting in 6 minutes of footage that actually cut together ok
- Lack of crew / contacts. My own credits so far comprise of writer, director, editor, SFX, casting, location manager, DP, sound, prop buyer, set dresser, costume dept, grip, driver, runner and animal wrangler (goldfish)

So there are the excuses! im sure other teams will find them familiar.

On a personal note, i do not regard this as a failure. As an aspiring film maker i could not have hoped for anything better than this challenge as a reason to get my hands dirty and get stuck in, and along the way to learn new things every day and to get better at this stuff. I aim to continue. Roll on your challenges sir, they provide the spark to get dreamer film makers out of the pub and onto the set. This was our rehearsal for the next one.

Your project is grand and worthy of merit. Maybe roll out a small de brief documentary about it, with interviews of the teams, those who made it and those who didnt, expressing their own trials and tribulations and experiences, clips of their films, BTS, commentaries. Its kind of like the Gumball/ Dakar Rally but films instead of cars, i know i would watch it!

all the best and see you at the ICA

hey jonny
unfortunately our production ran into more problems than expected. we almost ended up having to pay £1700 a day :-S anyway, i am unfortunately emailing you to say that we will not be able to submit a feature by the required date. we are working on a short with the crew we had but i know this is not what you were looking for. we all decided that it would be best to own up and say we couldn't do it, rather than try and cheat you by filling the production with dull, lifeless scenes. if you want the short as a warm up i will happily send you a copy on monday, if not no problem. i wish you all the luck with your future ventures and hope that next time our paths cross i can present you with something that both of us are happy with.

show details 24 Feb (2 days ago)

We had a bit of a catastrophic faliure, and lost our final cut, but
we've put it all back together and are just getting ready for a sound
mix tomorrow, before rushing the cut down to London over the
weekend...

We have a fair bit of behind-the-scenes footage that needs to be
edited to something comprehensible, and should have a trailer by
Friday if all goes well.

Hope all is well with you and your movie,

Lee

Hi Johnnie,

Things are going well (we are in editing hell, however) for team Gaffa Cake!

Having spent the first 2 weeks of the challenge honing and writing our idea. Plus prepping and getting a cast together, we finally got filming under way on the 15th for a 7 day solid stint. Was a great week with some great performances from our cast and Zombie extras!

At the moment we have a dark character driven zombie film set some time in the near future! The edit is slowly coming together but myself and Adrian (Who I'm making the film with) are now prepared not to sleep till Sunday!

Here's a still from our film.

feedback from challenger Gareth

Just a quick message, today we had to pull the plug on getting the film complete for the competition. Absolutely gutted to be doing it after so many peoples hard work and effort over the past month. We had some great fun, but after looking at the state of things today I decided to call time on it.

Our biggest problem was enough footage. We could either have really stretched it out and made it completely horrific and destroying peoples careers before they had begun or use enough good footage to make a very good 15min short, so we decided the latter was the better option and therefore giving us more time to edit it right.

This is my first attempt in getting together something this big, but a fantastic/stressful/fun/painfull/most enjoyable working experience of my life! Good luck to the others with the competition. And see you next year.

Best wishes

Gareth
